It's Halloween! I'm taking a break from watching horror movies (by myself, because who needs to sleep at night?) to root for my home team the Cleveland Indians in the World Series! R is rooting for the Cubs, which is making the Series extra fun this year.
This tart berry punch is suitable for both Halloween and baseball watching festivities. It's a nice transition into the flavors of fall - I'm planning on experimenting with Pomegranate Cranberry and some rosemary simple syrup in the coming weeks. The nice thing about vodka is that it's very forgiving when you're experiment, unlike some other spirits. For example, I tried this with gin and it smelled like feet.
I scaled this recipe up for a party at my office - I froze the blackberries so they'd keep the punch cold without watering it down. Creme de Cassis is very sweet so if you do that, go a little easy on it/add it to taste. Instead of shaking, stir the ingredients vigorously before adding the soda water.
Berry Pomegranate Punch - makes one cocktail
2 oz vodka
2 oz POM Pomegranate Blueberry Punch
¼ oz Creme de Cassis
Squeeze of lime
4 oz Lemon soda water
Mix everything but soda in a shaker and shake with ice until cold. Top with soda and garnish with a slice of lime and a blackberry.
