This cocktail was inspired by one called "Shut Your Pie Hole" which I thought was especially appropriate after this week's endless post-election online commentary.
Were you one of the people that couldn't wait until the election was over so everything could get back to normal on your social media accounts? Yeah, you're a sucker.
Personally I've witnessed several Facebook meltdowns and account deletions and more instances of "Yeah, but..." than I can handle. I think the words "p***y" and "crybaby" are going to give me flashbacks for decades.
On the bright side, I'm so glad that so many people have taken such a keen interest in how the electoral college works and are so willing to share their newfound knowledge in the comments section! Hopefully everyone will continue their interest in civics, and maybe even branch out into economics.
In all seriousness, I'm skeptical but hopeful that we've finally hit the breaking point, that Americans will tire of the division, the hateful rhetoric, the endless false narratives, and the oversimplifications that we use to try to make sense of the state of things. Maybe, in the long run, this shock to our system will be the thing we need to turn it all around. In any case, it's going to be a bumpy four years, so I'm banking on an increase in drinking and I'll be increasing my blog output to meet the demand.
Meanwhile, don't be a douchebag.
Cherry Pie Cocktail
2oz pineapple juice
Frozen sweet dark cherries
2-3oz soda water
Muddle 2 or 3 cherries in a cocktail shaker with bourbon, amaretto, and pineapple juice. Strain into a rocks glass over ice and top with soda and cherry garnish. Hold your drink in the hand that you would usually be using to share things on Facebook.
